Surah Ikhlas reminds us of the unity of Allah (swt) and the fact that He is needless.

It is a central declaration of our faith, the recitation of which is akin to reciting one third of the Holy Qur’an. Surah Kafiroon also protects against Shirk, but also manifests the ‘live and let live’ policy of Islam.

Surah Naas and Surah Falaq, protect one from the evils and whisperings of Shaitan and Jinns, the evils of darkness and ignorance.

Hazrat Abu Saeed al-Khurdi (R.A) said:

“The Messenger (PBUH) of Allah used to seek refuge with Allah from the jinn and from the evil eye until the Mu’wadaitain (Surah Falaq and Surah Naas) were revealed, & why they were revealed He started to recite them and not anything else.”

These 4 Surahs of Quran are Al-Kafirun (109), Al-Ikhlas(112), Al-Falaq (113) and An-Nas (114). 4 Quls are usually called the shielding Chapters in the entire Quran Pak. First two defend one from committing Shirk (Considering someone else equal to Allah), while the following ones defend against many evils of this world. Now let us discuss the great benefits of these greatly blessed Quranic Sections one by one in brief:

Advantages of Reading Surah Al-Kafirun :

This Chapter of the Holy Quran was revealed Makkah upon the Messenger ﷺ of ALLAH. It contains 6 Verses in total. It is a great source of attaining righteousness as it prevents one from doing making others partners with Allah SWT. Rasulullah ﷺ has been narrated to have said:

“Abu Darda’ reported Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) as saying:
Is any one of you incapable of reciting a third of the Qur’an in a night? They (the Companions) asked: How could one recite a third of the Qur’an (in a night)? Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said:” He is Allah, One” (Qur’an) is equivalent to a third of the Qur’an.
(Sahih Muslim)

Therefore, the greatest gain from Surah Al-Kafirun is indeed the strengthening of Islamic belief through avoiding “Shirk”.

Pros of Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas:

It is also a Makki Surah consisting of 4 Ayats in sum. It’s considered to be equal to 1/3rd of the entire Quranic Instructions according to Prophetic (PBUH) traditions.

“By Him in Whose hand my soul is, it is equal to one third of the Qur’an!”
(Sahih Bukhari)

This highly revered Chapter of Quran Kareem helps in the completion of “Tawheed”, which is a prerequisite of Islamic faith. Reported by Anas (R.A):

“If anyone recites two hundred times daily, Qul huwallahu Ahad the sins offifty years will be wiped out, unless he is in debt.” (Tirmidhi)

It shows that Surah Al-Ikhlas completes one`s devotion to the Almighty Lord, which is why its recital pays off huge benefits as described in this Hadith.

Gains of Narrating Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Nas:

The last and final two Chapters of the Holy Quran are generally known as “Al-Mu’awwidhatayn” (Verses of Refuge). They are both Makki Surahs which direct the believers to start their prayers with addressing the Almighty Lord with a belief that He will guard them against all the wicked forces like black magic, evil eye and spirits etc.

Chapter 112 – Surat Al-Ikhlas ( The Purity )

” Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem
Qul Huwa-llahu ‘Ahad
Allahus-Samad
Lam Yalid Wa Lam Yulad
Walam Yakul-La-Hu-Kufuwan ‘Ahad “

“ He is Allah,(the) One, Allahus-Samad ( The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks ). He begots not , nor was He begotten; And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him.”

Chapter 114 – Surah An-Nas ( Mankind )

” Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem
Qul ‘A’udhu Bi-Rabbin-Nas
Malikin-Nas
Ilahin-Nas
Min-Sharril-Waswasil-Khan-Nas
Al-Ladhi Yuwas-wisu Fee Sudurin-Nas
Mina Al-Jinnati Wan-Nas “

“ Say : I seek refuge with (Allah ) the lord of mankind, The king of mankind, The Ilah ( God ) of mankind, From the evil of the whisperer ( devi l who whispers evil in the hearts of men) , who withdraws ( from his whispering in one’s heart after one remembers Allah ), Who whispers in the breasts of mankind , Of jinns and men.”

Chapter 113 – Surah Al-Falaq ( Dawn )

” I seek refuge with ( Allah ) the Lord of the daybreak, From the evil of what He has created; And from the evil of the darkening ( night ) as it comes with its darkness; ( or the moon as it sets or goes away ). And from the evil of the witchcrafts when they blow in the knots, And from the evil of the envier when he envies. “

Chapter 109 – Surah Al-Kafiroun ( The Unbeliever )

“ Say : O Al-Kafiroun ( disbelievers in Allah , in His Oneness , in His Angels , in His Books , in His Messengers , in the Day of Resurrection , and in Al-Qadar , etc )! I worship not that which you worship, Nor will you worship that which I worship. And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping. Nor will you worship that which I worship. To you be your religion, and to me my religion
